Monte Scherblino is Augsburg's garbage mountain. What looks so beautifully green today is, at its core, the region's memory. From 1945, rubble from World War II was deposited here, later until 1996, all household waste. This giant towers about 55 meters high today. In the 90s, the whole thing was ecologically sealed: a meter-thick layer of clay, foil and earth on top, lean meadows planted and voilà: The dump became a recreational area with a 360-degree view! TSV Gersthofen (Sektion Alpin) actually erected a real summit cross up there in 2019! So, we have a summit here that you don't have to be a mountaineer to conquer. And because the mountain lies exactly in the approach path of Augsburg Airport, there are signs at the top saying "Caution, flight operations!" – where else have you seen a summit cross with an air traffic warning?

The Gersthofer Müllberg, also known as the Augsburger Müllberg or affectionately “Monte Scherbelino”, is a former landfill hill that now serves as a local recreation area. It rises about 55 meters above the surrounding landscape and offers an impressive 360-degree panoramic view of Augsburg, Gersthofen and, on a clear day, as far as the Alps.

The Sulzkopf, west of Bergheim in the "Rauher Forst", is barely visible in the forest area at 558 metres above sea level. Nevertheless, it is the highest point in Augsburg.

You will probably never get this close to a radio tower, as it is located in the middle of the forest.
