The silicic acid springs of the Frauenbach in Bad Einsiedel were discovered around 1550 and described soon afterwards in a text by Leonhard Thurneysser. He attributed a healing effect to the springs for ulcers, melancholy and open wounds. However, the springs were probably not used continuously until the 18th century, as the first bathhouse with bathing rooms was not built until 1723.
