A waterfall that deserves its name. You can take great photos here. Starting point for two huts with the same name (Tribulaunhütte), one in Austria and one in Italy. If you are looking for a tour that goes from Gschnitztal via the Italian Tribulaunhütte to Pflerschtal, take a look at my From Gschnitztal to Pflerschtal 20km tour. Important: the Italian side requires surefootedness and you should not be afraid of heights.

Small waterfall on the meditation path, ideal for freshening up

Nice quiet valley. It's breezy and less crowded. At the end of the waterfall with a hut to stop off.

Status 04/14/2022, after a long dry period: very steep, going up the trail from the bottom and taking hiking poles was a good solution for me. The most clearly visible path is very well marked. At one point a landslide took the path with it; as things stand today, you can still easily pass the said approx. 20 meters. You have to cross the creek once: If you have short legs like me, you might (depending on the water level) have to take an intermediate step into the shallow water at the edge; if you have long legs, you will probably stay dry.

At the end of the valley lies the mill village of Gschnitz: an open-air museum on the theme of mills, now of course closed in winter. Next to it a waterfall and a small chapel.

You can experience the Sarnthein Waterfall directly from a bridge, accessible via an easy forest path. The Waterfall on the Besinnungsweg offers refreshing cold water along a meditation path. Another impressive sight is the Gschnitz Waterfall, which drops about 30 meters over two steps and can be viewed from a circular route with a footbridge.
The Alfairalm waterfall is situated southwest of Austria, near Gschnitz and the Brenner Pass, making it accessible from Matrei am Brenner. To reach it, travel south from Innsbruck on the E13 highway towards the Brenner Pass, take the exit at Matrei am Brenner, and then proceed south to Steinach am Brenner. From there, the route leads to Trins/Gschnitz and then to Untertal, where the waterfall becomes visible.
Yes, opposite the valley in Obertal, there is a larger, unnamed waterfall of the Sandesbach river. A trail and bridge lead to and over this high-volume waterfall, which has a height of 15-40 meters, offering an additional powerful water spectacle.
Absolutely. The Sarnthein Waterfall is accessible via an easy-to-walk forest path, making it suitable for families. The Gschnitz Waterfall also features a short circular route with a footbridge, providing an enjoyable experience for all ages. Additionally, the Mill Village Gschnitz, located near the Sandesbach waterfall, is an open-air museum that is family-friendly and offers insights into historical life.
The Alfairalm waterfall, and generally other waterfalls in the region, are best visited in spring to early summer. During this period, the water volume is typically higher due to snowmelt, creating a more impressive flow.
Trails vary in difficulty. For instance, the Sarnthein Waterfall is reached via the Jubiläumsweg, an easy forest path. The Gschnitz Waterfall is part of a short circular route. For a more challenging experience, the Sill-Vill Trail offers a picturesque historical climb into the Sill gorge along the waterfall at Viller Bach, though it is very steep and recommended for experienced hikers.

Yes, the Mill Village Gschnitz is an open-air museum located at the end of the Gschnitztal valley, close to the Sandesbach waterfall. It showcases water-powered grain mills, a blacksmith's shop, and other traditional handicrafts, providing a glimpse into how people worked a century ago.
