Schwarzenegg Castle is located southwest of the town center of Wildon in Styria. The castle's origins date back to a rectangular estate built in the 16th century. This was expanded into a palace by Kaspar Herbersdorfer towards the end of the 16th century and was initially known as the "Schwarzhof." The castle itself today is a three-story, two-winged building with an elongated south wing and a short east wing. The entrance portals date from the first half of the 17th century, and the courtyard side of the south wing features columned arcades extending across all three floors, interrupted by a projecting staircase. Since 1650, the building complex has been known as "Schwarzenegg Castle." How the castle, inhabited by various noble families for centuries, became a home for several families is described here: https://wirbeleben.at/sanierungen/schloss-schwarzenegg

This castle is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside upon express request. The castle owner is a very affable gentleman, but he only allows people into his domain in exceptional circumstances. However, once you convince him of his good intentions, you can learn a great deal about the castle's history.

Schwarzenegg Castle is a former noble residence in Kainach near Wildon. During the Second World War, the castle was used to house the inventory of the Graz Armory. The current owner of the castle is Bernhard Frizberg, who himself grew up in old walls. He bought the castle in 2011 and literally breathed new life into it. In 2017, the conversion of the castle into a residential building was completed, and all 16 apartments are rented out.

In the heart of western Styria and on the southern foothills of the Rosenkogel, this historic building towers over the roofs of the market town of Stainz, surrounded by the castle's own vineyards and orchards. The castle was built in 1229 as an Augustinian monastery by Luitbold von Wildon.

South of Wundschuh is the Neuschloss, a beautiful baroque, two-story building from the mid-18th century. Large farm buildings are attached to the main building, on which a third floor was added between 1804 and 1809. On the site of today's castle there was a farm of the sovereigns called "Viehhofen". It was probably created around 1232 by Duke Friedrich II for his possessions in the western and southern parts of the Graz field. The castle with the hunting museum and the wine house in Stainz are well worth seeing. A church already existed here in 1229, which was developed into a magnificent monastery complex. Since 1840 in the possession of Archduke Johann or today his descendants, the Counts of Meran.
