Ecolodge Chalet at Finca El Maco

Highlight • Mountain Hut

For us it was THE place to stay in Colombia. We booked the chalet / ecolodge and more than enjoyed the stay. The chalet impresses with its design and open architecture (we remembered Hundertwasser) but above all with the spacious space with 2 bedrooms and a large living room. The balcony / terrace in the middle of the green with whirlpool are an oasis of calm and relaxation and it is really fun to watch the animals in the trees or just dream and relax during the day. Conveniences such as a minibar or coffee station are other noteworthy details. The Ecolodge stands alone on the large area of Finca el Maco and you are therefore not disturbed. We were happy to walk to the restaurant like the few meters to enjoy the excellent breakfast. Lunch and dinner were also excellent, although we would have liked to have local dishes on the menu. The staff is nice and helpful and all tour arrangements (e.g. coffee plantation, Rio Magdalena etc.) in the area worked out to the minute. We hiked to the Archaeological Park in less than an hour, and it was less than half an hour to the center of San Agustin. Of course you can also take a taxi. Of course, the chalet has its price, but it is worth it. In addition, there are even cheaper alternatives available on the finca, without having to forego the tranquility and atmosphere. Good WiFi! And another good news ... on the day of our departure the road was finished :)

The Finca Buenos Aires is a mountain hut and an important landmark in the department of Quindío. It is part of the Los Nevados National Natural Park and is located at an altitude of approximately 3,800 meters. The Finca is situated on the popular Cocora Circuit, which leads hikers from the well-known Cocora Valley (near Salento) deeper into the Andes. It often serves as an intermediate stop or an overnight option on demanding trekking tours, such as to Paramillo del Quindío or Laguna del Otún. It is a traditional mountain hut in the middle of an alpine grassland landscape (Páramo).

Finca La Primavera is a remote mountain hut at about 3,700 meters above sea level in Los Nevados National Park. It serves as a strategic base for hikers and mountaineers climbing the Nevado del Tolima volcano or undertaking multi-day treks through the Páramo landscape. The hut offers simple dormitories with blankets, meals (breakfast, dinner), and often even a shower with hot water. It is a rustic mountain accommodation. The rooms are often not well insulated, and there is hardly any electricity to charge devices; a power bank is recommended. Especially on weekends and holidays, advance booking via WhatsApp (often possible via Starlink internet on-site) is important.

When the finca is open, you can stop here for refreshments and a drink. Unfortunately, the opening hours are unreliable. Although drinks are occasionally sold even when the finca is closed, we were not allowed to use the toilets even after offering a generous tip. Therefore, you should be prepared to hike the entire circular route without a toilet. Otherwise, drinks are available at the checkpoint between the finca and the Wachspalmen, or down in the valley between the forest and the checkpoint at the entrance.
