On the western coast of the island of Poel, Timmendorfer Strand is located right next to the harbor with its lighthouse and adjacent campsite. The fine, white sandy Baltic Sea beach with its gently sloping water is particularly popular with families with children.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the port, you can enjoy the original nature here. Be careful of overhanging steep bank areas on the waterway and don't get too close to the edge of the path at the top: danger of breaking off! Here you can experience relics from the Ice Age and the present abundance of nature. Terrific!

This Ice Age breakthrough valley is really beautiful! It begins in Proseken on the main street (parking is available at the entrance) and ends at the old Zierower brickworks. After longer rains, the path is extremely muddy at about 20m in the middle of the valley. Two other paths lead from Proseken to about the middle of the valley, and one from Wisch. The ab Wisch is not shown on the map. Attention, since the beginning of December the bridge just before / after Proseken has been closed. It will not be renewed until 2023. If the water in the stream is not very high, then you can get to the other side in a sporty way.

Yes, the Timmendorfer Strand Cliffs on the island of Poel are considered family-friendly. This area features a beautiful steep coast and a path through the coastal forest above the cliffs, making it suitable for families to explore.
You can explore an Ice Age breakthrough valley at the Prosekener Grund Trail. This beautiful forest path begins in Proseken and extends to the old Zierower brickworks, offering a picturesque natural experience in every season.
The Boltenhagen Cliffs are very popular, offering extensive views and a hike below the steep coast, which reaches up to 35 meters in height. Another notable spot is the Timmendorfer Strand Cliffs on the island of Poel.
The Prosekener Grund Trail is a beautiful forest path, but be aware that it can become very muddy after heavy rains, particularly about 20 meters into the valley. Parking is available at the Proseken entrance. As of late 2023, a bridge near Proseken was closed for renewal, which might require a sporty crossing if water levels are low.
Yes, the hike below the Boltenhagen Cliffs can be challenging as the path leads exclusively over natural sand and gravel. Additionally, the Erosion fissures on the Baltic Sea cliff are noted for their natural, dynamic state and are not recommended for children due to potential slips.
The Kerbtal at Lake Schwerin is a classic V-shaped notch valley, deeply cut and falling steeply towards the lake. It offers dramatic scenery and a beautiful hiking trail, perfect for enjoying nature and its striking landform.
Beyond exploring the canyons, Northwest Mecklenburg offers various outdoor activities. You can find numerous routes for gravel biking, cycling, and MTB trails throughout the region, allowing you to experience the diverse landscapes.
Visitors frequently praise the extensive views, the natural beauty of the landscapes, and the unique geological formations. Many appreciate the opportunity for beautiful hikes along the steep coasts and through the Ice Age valleys, often highlighting the peaceful and scenic experience.
When visiting coastal cliffs like the Boltenhagen Cliffs or the Erosion fissures on the Baltic Sea cliff, it's important to be aware of natural processes. Erosion can cause sections to slip, so always pay attention to warning signs and maintain a safe distance from the cliff edges, especially after heavy rains.
