As of July 2025 the Villa is intermittently open, and free as walking around at ground level is not permitted (issues with mould). You can, however, see the site from a viewing window, & be told the history of the place. Stuart was my "guide" and was highly knowledgable and interesting.

Slight deviation from the trail route, but it is well worth a quick visit. This remaining tower once formed part of Archbishop's Palace, hosting the likes of King Henry VIII.

Although an older manor house once existed here, the Otford Palace (the Archbishop's Palace) that you see today was built at the beginning of the 16th century by Archbishop William Warham. The most obvious feature of the castle is the three storey polygonal tower, a Grade-II listed builded. A series of cottages stretch from the tower to the gatehouse, a converted part of the palace which was renovated into cottages in the 20th century. The palace is free to visit and sits in the centre of Otford village.
