April 13, 2026, Falcon Creek Trail

It's easy to go for a hike and simply enjoy the scenery. However, here at Falcon Creek the province of Manitoba has created an area where you can look deeper than just the surface level. They've created a self guided tour through the volcanic and glacial history that has shaped the land you're walking on. Follow the link to download the PDF and see how many geologic features you can spot: https://www.gov.mb.ca/sd/pubs/parks-protected-spaces/park_info/whiteshell_falcon.pdf

March 12, 2026, Sturgeon Falls Trail

Sturgeon Falls Trail is quite flat and stretches from the Whiteshell River to Sturgeon Falls. The trail leads hikers through aspen forests before spitting them out at the falls or rapids. There is a little sandy beach for a dip, but don't swim too far out to the rough water.

Nutimik Boat Launch has a parking area, a dock, and a sandy beach with picnic benches in the shade. Here, the Whiteshell River empties into Nutimik Lake. From the boat launch, there is also a short paddle to Nutimik Island.

March 12, 2026, Sturgeon Falls

Sturgeon Falls is less of a waterfall and more of a rapids section of the Winnipeg River. There's a small sandy beach with a rock hop to a large rocky outcrop, great for sitting and watching the river, surrounded by its water.

Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park is a popular day use area where the Whitemouth and Winnipeg Rivers meet, offering a picturesque view of both waterways and the nearby Seven Sisters Falls hydroelectric dam. It’s perfect for a day of picnicking, fishing, and wildlife watching, especially American white pelicans and migrating Great Gray Owls. Interesting fact: there are three archaeological sites here that suggest evidence of people that have camped in this area for as long as 4,800 years ago.

November 12, 2025, Whitemouth Falls

Whitemouth Falls, situated at the confluence of the Whitemouth and Winnipeg Rivers, is a gentle cascade of rapids that run over water-smoothed rock ledges. This area is known as the staging and nesting area of the Great Gray Owl, Manitoba’s provincial bird, and is also a habitat for many other birds, including American White Pelicans, shorebirds, and waterfowl. Instead of a dramatic plunge, the falls are a peaceful setting, perfect for capturing a few photos and an excellent place for watching pelicans glide along the current.

The power generating station is the connector from Seven Sisters to Pinawa Trails. But this bridge is often closed off to the public by MB Hydro.
