Admittedly, my encounter with the monument here in Vizzini revealed a gap in my knowledge, as I had never been familiar with either the person or the work of Giovanni Verga (1840 to 1922) before. The man honored here in his hometown with a beautiful statue and a museum is recognized by Wikipedia as "an Italian writer and one of the main representatives of Verismo, Italian naturalism. His main works are the novels La Malavoglia (1881) and Mastro-Don Gesualdo (1889), as well as the short story collections Country Life (1880) and Peasant Novellas (1883)."

To reach the waterfall, follow the path of about 1 km well marked by signs. The last section of the trail consists of stairs and is therefore only accessible to hikers

Traditional Ricotta and Cheese Festival in Vizzini (CT) on 24 and 25 April 2023. The "Festival of Flavors and Knowledge in the lands of Verga" is an event rich in folklore, gastronomy and shows, but the absolute protagonists will be, like always, ricotta and cheeses. The event which has now become the Festa dei Sapori e Saperi is celebrated in a setting that enhances folklore, craft and gastronomic traditions. The scents of Sicilian cuisine spread through the streets of the city amidst applause, colors and enthusiasm. An event with a great history and participation of people from all over the island in the celebration of the peasant tradition of making ricotta and cheese. During the days of the festival, Vizzini, Giovanni Verga's native land, proposes a rich program of culinary delicacies and cultural initiatives, parades of carts, Sicilian costumes and flag-wavers. It is advisable to arrive very early due to too much confusion.
