Wechmarer Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Wechmarer Hütte has been a popular hiking and excursion destination on the sun terrace above Georgenthal for over 100 years.
Approx. 2 km outside of Georgenthal, in the middle of the forest, we offer rustic cosiness with around 80 seats in the cozy "Hütten-Stuben" and over 100 seats in the wonderful "forest beer garden" which is shaded under green canopy; but also offers sunny spots.
There are many comfortable hiking trails leading to us, and access by car is possible from Georgenthal.

We wanted to stop for lunch but unfortunately the hut was completely booked. It's a shame that as a hiker without a reservation you have no chance of getting a table because everyone drives past you in their car on the way there.

The route then takes us over the Dreiherrenstein along the slope to the Töpfenbach spring and onto the Hohe Straße. The Hohe Straße was a trade route that led from Schmalkalden through the Haderholzgrund to the Rennsteig Trail. (Source: https://www.ich-geh-wandern.de)
