The Lakeside singletrack – Lake Siskiyou loop from Mount Shasta offers a dynamic touring cycling experience, blending easy multi-use paths with more challenging singletrack sections. You'll ride through shaded forests and open areas, constantly treated to stunning reflections of Mount Shasta in Lake Siskiyou, with Mount Eddy often in view. The terrain shifts from smooth hardpack to pine needles, gravel, and even some rocky or sandy stretches, making for an engaging ride that keeps things interesting.

This moderate 14.0-mile (22.6 km) route, with 905 feet (276 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. To ensure a full circumnavigation of the lake, plan your visit between mid-May and mid-November when the seasonal pontoon bridges are in place. If you're connecting from Mount Shasta, be prepared for varied surfaces on the approach, and consider wider tires (2.2 inches or above) for optimal comfort on the diverse Lake Siskiyou loop cycling trails.

Beyond the beautiful views, the route is notable for its multi-use nature, shared with hikers, and features impressive structures like the Wagon Creek suspension bridge. It provides easy access to swimming and fishing spots, passing through the Lake Siskiyou Resort and Campground. This makes it a great option for a scenic outing that combines natural beauty with convenient amenities, offering a rewarding Mount Shasta touring cycling route for those seeking a mix of challenge and relaxation.

The Bike loop from Gateway Trailhead offers a dynamic touring cycling experience through the stunning Sonoran Desert. You'll navigate varied terrain, from smooth dirt to rocky singletrack, passing vibrant saguaro and palo verde cacti. The route provides excellent views of the surrounding mountains and opportunities to spot desert wildlife, especially during cooler parts of the day. This difficult 15.1-mile (24.3 km) loop, with 1861 feet (567 metres) of elevation gain, takes around 2 hours and 27 minutes, making it a rewarding challenge for fit cyclists.

Planning your ride is straightforward, as the Gateway Trailhead provides free parking, restrooms, and water fountains. No permits are required, and the trail is accessible year-round, though cooler months or early mornings are best to avoid the desert heat. Riding clockwise is often recommended for a more gradual ascent, helping you conserve energy for the technical sections.

This popular route is part of the extensive McDowell Sonoran Preserve network, known for its accessibility and diverse trails. The educational boardwalk at the trailhead offers insights into local wildlife and landscapes. While not for absolute beginners, the loop's combination of natural beauty and physical challenge makes it a standout option for advanced touring cycling in the Scottsdale, AZ area.

Sisson Meadow is a hidden-gem right in the heart of the town of Mount Shasta. This 7.5-acre Nature Preserve has a lovely wooden boardwalk trail through the meadow with plenty of benches to admire the views of Mount Shasta, Mount Eddy, Black Butte and Castle Spire. There are also picnic areas and public art installations.

While this is the ultimate gateway to Mount Shasta's winter activities, it is also widely used in the summer since it serves as a starting point for five of the nine hiking trails on Mount Shasta. It provides access to Horse Camp, Hidden Valley, and Green Butte Ridge.
