Travlenny
June 22, 2024, Wojtek the Bear Square

Wojtek, a Syrian brown bear, was born in 1941 in Persia. He was adopted by soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the 2nd Polish Corps, commanded by General Władysław Anders. The soldiers bought a little bear cub from a Persian boy, and 18-year-old Irena Bokiewicz took care of it. Wojtek set off with his soldiers on a combat trail through Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt and Italy. He took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino, where he helped carry ammunition crates. He became the symbol of the 22nd Company, and his image appeared on their emblems. After the war, Wojtek went to the zoo in Edinburgh, where he spent the rest of his life. Wojtek died on December 2, 1963 at the age of 22, remaining a favorite of the soldiers and the local community.

A large clearing with a descent to the Gunica River. Sheds, tables, a place for a bonfire. Parking for cars. For the initiates, this place was called "Gypsy River"

2022: beautiful, but probably closed forever 2024: now back in full splendor, beautiful view, although the path is very sandy

Just a few years ago, you could go up it and admire the lake. Today, its condition does not allow it - so it is closed. Edit: the tower was reopened in 2023 after renovation and can be used.
