Mostly paved road with small potholes and few meters of unpaved road that require attention. Even though it is a very demanding climb the views are totally worth it. One of the best “less-touristy” roads in high altitude Greece. ATTENTION: Limitted access to drinkable water along the way. Make sure to refill in any given opportunity.

Gravel surface is a bit rough, but still manageable even on a trekking bike. The ride flows more smoothly when heading southbound.

The double-track road ends here (as of August 2025). Several landslides caused by Cyclone Janus in 2020 remain unrepaired. Beyond this point, the track is fully overgrown and impassable for about 4 km. Expect to push through dense bushes until the road reappears.

You'll get to the bit of the road that has collapsed a little ..and if you're like us, optimistically you'll carry on up the road. The next bit has really collapsed. You might want to risk it but the damage was to hard to climb across with loaded bikes.
