I visited on a sunny day, it was warm at the bottom and very windy at the very top. The route was quite easy.

Hike from Sunnyhurst pub, take in Darwen Tower then drop down to The Royal and back through the field for a nice circular route. Great on a lovely day and the pub does food if you want an afternoon snack or meal

The waterfalls in and around Hyndburn, particularly those in the Roddlesworth Woods area, are typically at their most impressive during the wetter months. Late autumn, winter, and early spring, especially after periods of heavy rainfall, will offer the most dramatic flows. During drier summer months, some cascades might be less powerful, but the trails remain beautiful.
Many of the trails in Hyndburn, including those leading to waterfalls, are generally dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep dogs on a lead, especially near livestock, wildlife, and around the often-slippery terrain close to waterfalls. The varied landscapes of woodlands and reservoirs provide great opportunities for walks with your canine companion.

For instance, the longer White Coppice Stone Bridge β Roddlesworth Reservoirs loop from Withnell not only features waterfalls but also takes you past the tranquil Roddlesworth Reservoirs, offering a diverse landscape of water features and woodland paths.
The terrain around Hyndburn's waterfall trails is varied. You can expect well-trodden paths through woodlands, often following river valleys like the River Calder, and sometimes more rugged sections, especially closer to the cascades. Some routes may include gentle ascents and descents, with surfaces ranging from compacted earth to gravel and potentially muddy sections after rain. Sturdy footwear is always recommended.
