Pretty church in the summer, spooky in the winter!

Saint HUBERT, to whom this church is dedicated, lived from 655 to 727 and is a very popular saint, known above all as the patron saint of hunters. A stag with a shining cross between its antlers is said to have appeared to him, which is often depicted in portraits of Hubertus. This legend was originally attributed to Saint Eustace and over time 'migrated' to Hubertus. His memorial day in the calendar of saints is November 3rd.

Broadhalfpenny Down is more famous for its historic cricket club a short distance away than for its gorgeous views. Here there is tranquility and the views down the Hambledon valley is quite something.

This is a very open panoramic landscape which commands views up and down the Lavant Valley in the east, the wooded slopes of Butser Hill, Ditcham Park and Uppark House to the north, and the open ridge of Blendworth Down and Windmill Hill to the west. There are also fine views south to The Solent and Isle of Wight.

A Grade I Listed Saxon and Norman church rebuilt in the 10th century to replace an earlier stone and flint building. The church is remarkable for its solitary position and for unusual wall paintings from the 1330s which were mistakenly believed to depict a scene from the conversion of St Hubert but actually reveal the Hairy Anchorite or wherewolf from a central European legend. The church is open to visitors each day throughout the year. It is a popular venue for walkers and other recreational and cultural activities. https://www.nationalchurchestrust.org/church/st-hubert-idsworth
