There are three pubs in Sutton Courtney, which is the half way point on the walk, to take a break for refreshments. We had an excellent coffee at the Fish.

Lovely section of the River Thames behind Sutton Pools. You'll come across many idyllic houses perched on the riverbanks as well as a number of canal boats, one of them of which is a canal boat converted café serving up delicious hot drinks and cakes on Saturdays and Sundays.

Lying in the quiet churchyard of Sutton Courteney, George Orwell's grave brings visitors from all over the world. The masterful British writer changed the literary world with his novels and the Orwell Society make an annual pilgrimage to his grave each year on the Sunday nearest his birthday (25 June). It's certainly worth nothing that his grave is marked with his real name: Eric Arthur Blair.

This modern road bridge replaced the nearby historical and Grade II listed bridge in 1928. It crosses both the Thames and "Culham Cut", a navigable canal which cuts off a trait of the Thames to make navigation easier for longboats, just before they re-join. The width of the bridge is such that it's only passable by one vehicle at a time, and as such a traffic light regulated alternate one-way system is in place.

Willowy views on both sides of the Thames bridge (which is different from the Culham Cut Canal bridge).
