Constructed between 1852 and 1857 this is the middle of the three reservoirs in the valley. There are nice footpaths all around the reservoir and further up the valley.

Knowsley Lane crosses over Rivington but it has wonderful views of the water and the other side there are steps that the water runs down. which is interesting to view

Top lock amazed me how much it takes the narrow boats to get through. I can imagine it's a very hard thing to do, especially if you have 90 of them to pass

Dark lane climb is a good one and getting you legs and heart pumping. The road take you to wards Rivington Pike and beautiful lake with again some more difficult climbs
