Boskapel Buggenhout – a festive moment to visit After years of restoration, the Boskapel of Buggenhout reopens its doors on August 15, 2026. Everyone is welcome to celebrate this festive reopening and rediscover this special monument in all its glory. The Boskapel has been the most famous monument in Buggenhout for over five centuries. According to legend, Jacoba van Heffene had the chapel built in memory of her husband Jan De Rijcke, who was fatally wounded by a wild boar during a hunt. A memorial plaque in the chapel keeps this ancient legend alive. The chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, remains a place of peace and reflection. Be sure to also take time for the special Rosary Walk with fifteen stations and the impressive artificial rock formations that surround the chapel. Are you in the area on August 15, 2026? This spacious, free Municipal car park on Kasteelstraat is the ideal base for a walk through the Buggenhoutbos. The semi-paved car park is located in the middle of the greenery and offers a quiet alternative to the busier car park at the Boskapel. From here, you can walk to the Boskapel in just 200 metres and immediately join the hiking network (N°66). Thanks to its natural surface, the car park remains easily accessible even after rain. A quiet and practical start to your exploration of one of Flanders' most beautiful forests.

The cage house, already found on a map since 1678, was used to store the duck catcher's equipment or as a storage place for caught ducks. He could also sleep there in an alcove. The beacon tree, a giant poplar, served as a beacon in the landscape. Approaching ducks used it as a landmark. Its age is estimated at 160 years.

The former tidal water mill on the Oude Durme in Hamme is a historical gem with a rich history. Located in the beautiful Durmemeersen, this unique location has been transformed from a water mill into a popular catering establishment.

The Ringdijk near the public parking lot forms the guideline through the historic economic landscape of De Bunt. De Bunt and its history in a nutshell: in the 19th century, until around 1830, peat was extracted on a large scale. The resulting peat pits gave the area its marshy character with the characteristic ponds and streams. Between 1880 and 1930, De Bunt was essential for the local rope industry. In the wide canals, hemp was retted, a process where the plants were placed in the water to loosen the fibers for the production of rope and yarn.

Kijktoren Schellebelle; a viewing platform at the intersection of Tragelweg and Blokstraat offers you a unique view of the Kalkense Meersen. At this point, the Tragelpad with the old Scheldearm meets the Blokstraat, forming the nerve center of the recreational routes.
