The hiking trail along the dam is dotted with interesting information panels about the flora and fauna in and around the dam. It is in very good condition and easy to walk on. Sturdy footwear is recommended, however. Below the path marked as Felsenweg 3b, a narrow path runs directly along the shore of the dam. Be careful, there are a few scrambles along the rocks; the path is not marked or signposted. The reward for your efforts are impressive views of the dam.

Route 3a complements the rocky paths with a varied tour offering beautiful views as far as the Lower Vogtland region. The route leads through a charming hilly landscape, nestled in the small town of Werda. Forests, meadows, and fields alternate, repeatedly offering views into the distance. The highlight is the ascent to the 676-meter-high Eimberg near Kottengrün, with sweeping views of the Elster Valley. Hikers encounter rock formations again on the sister route 3b. Rocky Path 3b leads hikers into the forests of the Geigenbach Valley and around the Werda Dam, which reflects the forest and sky like a mirror. From the forest valley, hikers continue out onto the open heights around Neustadt, all the way to the gates of Falkenstein. Along the way, hikers are surprised by more than just romantic rock formations, inviting them to linger. Charming views, some of which extend as far as Thuringia, also beckon hikers through Poppengrün, Neustadt, and Oberwinn. The Lochstein invites you to take a short rest, and a detour to Falkenstein and the castle rock is also recommended. Near Grünbach, Felsenweg 3b takes a detour over the Wendelstein. Here you'll encounter the landmark of the Felsenweg trails, the "Löwenkopf" rock formation.
