THE BOVENSTE PLASMOLEN The exact age of this watermill is unknown, but it may have been in operation as early as the fifteenth century. The wall anchor date '1725' indicates that a renovation took place in that year. Originally, the Bovenste Plasmolen was designed for papermaking; however, in 1846 it was converted to mill grain. The millstones are driven by a waterwheel that serves as both a medium-shot and an overshot wheel. The water for the medium-shot drive comes from the nearby Molenvijver (Mill Pond). The water for the overshot drive comes from the Groene Water (Green Water) located higher up via a stream and a long channel. The gasoline engine can also be used as auxiliary power. The Bovenste Plasmolen suffered war damage in 1944 and subsequently fell into disrepair. However, in 1999, the watermill and the watercourses were fully restored. ANWE Zimmermanfonds
