The Pearl Lake Trail starts out very easy to follow but once you get to the Eastern side of the lake it becomes more of an unbeaten path. It is not a loop so you can decide how far you want to go and hike back the way you came.

The manmade Freeman Reservoir was created by building the 485-foot Freeman Reservoir Dam. The lake also provides a great place to hike and camp. The dam connects the trails on either side of the reservoir.

On the south shore of Freeman Reservoir, you'll find a small platform cut into the lake with some big boulders, which is a great spot for fishing or a scenic picnic.

Scenic campsite within Steamboat Lake State Park. Wake up before sunrise and you will understand why the campground is named for its sunrise vistas. From the campground, you can easily access the Willow Creek Trail in both directions.

The Tombstone Nature Trail is a short hiking loop in Steamboat Lake State Park near Hahns Peak Village. It offers wonderful lake and Hahns Peak views. The name Tombstone derives from the Wheeler Gravesite along the trail. The Wheelers moved here from the North East Coast, making 243 acres in this area their homestead.

Pearl Lake is a mountain reservoir at the base of Farwell Mountain. The 167-acre lake lies in Pearl Lake State Park which offers a campground, boat ramps, nature trails west, south, and east of the lake, and many lovely picnic spots.

Hahns Peak Lake is a pristine lake in a remote Colorado area. There are trails looping around the lake, there is a campground and visitors love to paddle board on the lake. It is usually pretty quiet in this part of Colorado, which makes your hike a solitary experience.

There are a couple of trailheads at the Freeman Reservoir parking lot. You can hike around Freeman Reservoir for an easy loop hike or you can hike into Bow Medicine-Routt National Forest where there are numerous trails to go to. For instance the summit of the prominent Black Mountain.
