The Cathedral of Palermo (officially Cattedrale della Santa Vergine Maria Assunta) is the architectural heart of the Sicilian capital and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2015. Like few other buildings, it reflects the varied, multicultural history of Sicily, as over the centuries it has combined influences from the Normans, Arabs, Byzantines, and European Baroque master builders.

The Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, commonly known as Politeama, is a theatre located in Piazza Ruggero Settimo, at the end of Viale della Libertà. Home to the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, it is considered the "heart" of the city. Its construction was started in 1867 by Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda and inaugurated in 1874, although incomplete and without a roof. The building, as conceived, aimed to exalt its social function as a "Theatre of the people": the horseshoe-shaped hall in 1874 indeed had a capacity of 5,000 spectators, a double row of boxes, and a gallery divided into two tiers. The entrance to the structure is characterized by a neoclassical-inspired triumphal arch, topped by a quadriga with a bronze Apollo, a work by Mario Rutelli. The term "Politeama" indicates a generic theatre where various types of performances are given.

When we were here in early April 2026, we couldn't do the circular trail (closed), but it was possible to walk to the Castel after paying the entrance fee. Definitely worth it, great view

As a great lover of hunting, King Ferdinand III of Bourbon, owner of the entire Ficuzza Forest and the Royal Hunting Lodge built nearby, had steps and a large ledge carved into this rocky outcrop for hunting. This is the so-called King's Pulpit, a beautiful and evocative sight.
