Lengsfeld Castle is also known as the moated castle or Boineburg Castle. As early as 1125, Hersfeld Monastery had a castle built in a protected area of the Felda floodplain. It was significantly expanded in the 14th century and became the property of the Boineburg family in the 16th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the moats were filled in, a park was created and the castle was converted into a residential castle. After the Second World War, the state took over the estate and the castle complex was used as a sanatorium. The complex on the outskirts of Stadtlengsfeld now houses a rehabilitation clinic specializing in psychosomatics.

The area around the Menzengraben shaft was designed with a lot of effort and love by private initiative back in GDR times after the mine was closed. The ponds were already a popular local recreational destination back then and have been visited again and again since the restaurant was built. The former shaft buildings have now also been privatized and renovated. At the end of our Easter hike 2024, we were warmly welcomed and well looked after in the Menzengraben restaurant. Thank you!

The latter was created in 1911 as a miners' settlement. Potassium salt had been explored underground, which belongs to the so-called Werra potash district. Shafts, storage and processing facilities and a connection to the Feldabahn were built
