On the return journey from the Diet of Worms in 1521 - the story behind this is well known - Martin Luther stopped here on May 3rd and 4th, 1521, to visit relatives - his parents come from Möhra - and preached here on May 4th before continuing his journey. Diagonally above the square stands the noteworthy Lutherkirche.

On a hill at the edge of the village lies the small but charming Gothic church, which also serves as a cemetery chapel. The cemetery is located directly west of the church. This should be kept in mind when viewing the church from the outside. Martin Luther's parents lived here in Möhra until they moved to the Mansfeld region. Martin Luther himself preached here on May 3, 1521, upon his return from the Diet of Worms, before being "kidnapped" nearby and taken to Wartburg Castle. The rest is history ;-)
