The Tafelberg castle site was a smaller motte castle in the Middle Ages on the southeastern outskirts of the town, which was probably built on a hill previously used as a cult site and is first indirectly mentioned in connection with noble ministerials of the Landgraves of Thuringia. In the 14th century, the castle came into the possession of the city of Erfurt and was used to secure trade routes, of which today only an approximately 20-meter-wide debris cone with a former moat remains, which is protected as a historical monument.

A crowning eagle, often a prominent feature of war memorials and monuments commemorating the victims of war and tyranny, has been immortalized in the anti-war song "Unger'm Adler" (Under the Eagle) by the mother of all Cologne-language music groups – the "Bläck Fööss": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKjl50KrqC0

At the entrance to Töttleben, looking back, in the distance is the hill we crossed a few hours ago. The small village church is beautiful, with the village pond in front of it. The inn next door is unfortunately closed for vacation. Spotted on our tour from Stedten to Erfurt. Here's the whole tour https://youtu.be/_ERx2iqHErU
