Beautiful path through the fields. Very muddy in places in wet weather. A wide strip of grass runs parallel to the fields. This can be used as an alternative to the muddy track.

On the northern edge of the Bartelsbusch there are still a few particularly gnarled oak trees. They are probably almost 300 years old.

The Via Scandinavica impressively conveys the charm of Northern Germany, with magnificent Hanseatic cities along the route. The greatest challenge of pilgrimage will not be the elevation gain, but the sheer length that awaits you. Perfect for finding yourself with plenty of time and peace. The Way of St. James Via Scandinavica offers a connection along a migratory bird route from the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn to Northern Germany. Via Lübeck, Lüneburg, Celle, Hanover, and Göttingen, the route continues to the border region between Thuringia and Hesse, from where paths lead us towards Santiago de Compostela, Rome, and Jerusalem. This section of Stage 7, circumnavigating Lake Behlendorf, leads along this route. After Berkenthin, you leave the Elbe-Lübeck Canal for a day. You first hike over an open hill, which offers you magnificent views, and shortly afterwards along Lake Behlendorf. https://www.jakobsweg.de/via-scandinavica/

This listed bridge spans the Ratzeburg - Bad Oldesloe section of the so-called Kaiserbahn, which opened in 1897. At that time, Kaiser Wilhelm II wanted a direct connection from Berlin to Kiel by the shortest route. Therefore, the route from Hagenow to Bad Oldesloe would be rebuilt. The section located here was the last one to be opened. Kaiser Wilhelm II often used the route to get to the Kiel marina or Kiel Week. The route was only single-track, but it was built in such a way that a second track could be easily pulled. Therefore, this bridge also has two archways.
