To celebrate the thousandth anniversary of Jauernick and as a symbol of peace and harvest, the "Golden Ear of Grain" was erected here in 1967. Due to severe corrosion, it was dismantled and stored in 1970. Thanks to the dedication of Jauernick's citizens, the ear of grain was re-erected and rededicated on October 2, 2000, to mark the tenth anniversary of German Unity.

The St. Wenceslas Foundation in Jauernick was built in 1861. It was commissioned by St. Marienthal Monastery and initially housed a children's and educational institution. Due to changing ownership, the Caritas organization operated a children's home there from 1948 to 1959. Ownership changed hands again. Since 1989, the foundation, named after the Bohemian saint Wenceslas, has been under the auspices of the Diocese of Görlitz and is now a conference center and family retreat.

300m from the Markersdorf ice station you will find the place where Marshal Duroc was killed by a Russian cannonball. Napoleon had a 1km² tent camp built above the Horschig farm to provide for the marshal. Despite all efforts, he died 1.5 days later. Napoleon had lost his most capable, beloved marshal. A hotel of the same name with very good food and further information can be found in Holtendorf 1km towards Görlitz.
