East of Kamenz lies the small village of Räckelwitz with its castle. Räckelwitz Castle - presumably built around 1750 - with its luminous Maltese cross above the entrance portal is a reminder of the more recent history of use. The castle chapel, which was built in 1885 in the Beuron style, is exceptional. The narrow building with a semi-circular chancel has arched windows. The neo-Romanesque church building wanted to represent a God's castle on the outside. more at: https://www.landurlaub-sachsen.de/kapelle-im-beuroner-stil-raeckelwitz.html

Michał Hórnik (officially Michael Hornig; born September 1, 1833 in Räckelwitz; † February 22, 1894 in Bautzen) was a Sorbian clergyman and one of the most important patrons of Sorbian literature of the 19th century. Michał Hórnik attended high school in Bautzen and in Prague's Lesser Town and studied Catholic theology and Slavic linguistics at Charles University in Prague from 1853 to 1856. On September 24, 1856 he was ordained a priest. From 1856 to 1889 he was chaplain and pastor in Bautzen and from 1889 cathedral canon in Bautzen. On August 28, 1861 Hórnik entered the Upper Lusatia Society of Sciences. He campaigned for better cooperation among the Sorbs, regardless of whether they were Protestant, Catholic, Upper or Lower Lusatia. As a Sorb, he felt very close to the Slavic peoples, but especially to the Polish and Czech workers living in Germany, and tried to support them in the struggle against social inequalities and difficulties. On the island in the pond you can linger on one of the numerous benches and let your eyes wander over the lake to the castle.
