The city tower, also known as the market tower and fish tower, is the landmark of the Lower Austrian town of Fischamend and was built in 1050 as a border and watchtower under Emperor Henry III. built. After a fire in 1834, the landmark was renovated and largely received its current appearance. The almost 31 m high tower served as a community hall and night watchman's apartment until 1927 and has since been used as a local museum.

Initially an independent parish from 1666 belonging to the diocese of Passau, the parish went to the Archdiocese of Vienna in 1729. The mighty nave hall was built around 1700 in the transition from early to high baroque. In 1995/1997 the outside of the church was restored.
