Through the Rheintor, you reach the Burgplatz, where a wooden bridge over a moat was the only access to Linz Castle for centuries. This moat or pond occupied a large part of the square and was only filled in at the beginning of the 19th century. The picturesque Burgplatz is adorned by a half-timbered house from the early 17th century with two gables, to its right another from around 1500 with a high-water exit on the 1st floor. In the center of the square stands since 1980 the bronze fountain figure of the "Strünzer", created by the artist Ulla Windheuser-Schwarz, a loving depiction of the typical Linzer who, as is said, tends towards exaggeration and arrogance. Gastronomy also has a tradition at Burgplatz, as the inn "Zum Winkel" was located at the site of the present-day Café Leber since the early 17th century. From Burgplatz towards the city to the Marktplatz leads the Rheinstraße, in which magnificent historical half-timbered houses line up.
