Along the walk to or from Ottawa Canyon and Kaskaskia Canyon, make sure to take a look at 40 feet high and 30 feet deep 'Council Overhang'. It is said, that the overhang was used by native tribes to meet under this natural shelter.

At the end of Ottawa Canyon, you will reach the waterfalls of the same name. The 45 feet high waterfalls are falling down from the grotto, so you can actually walk around the down streaming water.

Compared to its sister, 'Ottawa Canyon', 'Kaskaskia Canyon' doesn't include walls of the same height but is narrower and darkerยด. When you reach the waterfalls at the end of the trail, you can enter a little cave behind the 15 feet high waterfalls (if you don't mind getting wet feet!). In the wintertime the falls offer a special sight as they sometimes freeze and offer a beautiful picture.

Illinois Canyon is the easternmost canyon in Starved Rock State Park. In contrast to the other canyons in the eastern part of the State Park, this trail does not include a waterfall but isn't less beautiful to walk through. Along your hike you will pass several creeks and depending on the season, you should be prepared to get wet feet at some spots.

Buffalo Rock State Park is located on a bluff that was once an island in the Illinois River. This area was once inhabited by Illinois Indians. From here you have a stunning view of the Illinois River. The cliffs that form a kind of canyon are breathtaking!
