August 11, 2026, Six Mile Lake Provincial Park

The park sits on Six Mile Lake, on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, with rocky shoreline mixed into forest and wetland. Keep an eye out for wildlife — walking sticks and five-lined skinks turn up here, and birdlife is active through spring and summer before migration. Camping runs from early May to Thanksgiving weekend in October, spread across several campgrounds, with Lakeview Heights offering premium waterfront sites.

July 28, 2026, Marsh Trail

The Marsh Trail runs about 1 km through Six Mile Lake Provincial Park. It is rated moderate, mainly because of uneven, rocky terrain rather than distance or elevation. Several hikers have noted that sections can get muddy or even partly flooded after rain.

July 28, 2026, David Milne Trail

The trail is named after David Milne, one of Canada's most influential landscape painters, who lived in a small cabin on Six Mile Lake for four years. He drew inspiration from the rolling rock formations of the Canadian Shield you'll see along the path, the same scenery that shaped many of his paintings, later recognized for their impact on Canadian art. Expect a short but somewhat rugged walk, since the terrain includes exposed rock.

The Living Edge Trail is rated moderate mainly because of the rocky terrain, not the distance. As you walk, you'll cross exposed granite outcrops typical of the Canadian Shield, right alongside wetland areas where beavers are active.

March 12, 2026, Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest is a rocky outcrop that overlooks McCrae Lake and the surrounding forests. It is quite an impressive view, but be careful when exploring, as there are no rails and a steep drop on the other side.
