The "Welsche Häusle" is a reminder of the Waldensians who were expelled from French (Welsche) Savoy because of their Protestant faith and who founded what is now Neuhengstett in the 18th century. The hut served commuters to Calw as shelter in bad weather and as a place to rest. The age of the shelter is unknown; it was first mentioned in 1835 as a shooting lodge. Of the three linden trees that were declared a natural monument, unfortunately only three remain today.
