The Reeuwijkse Plassen consist of thirteen lakes, twelve of which were created by peat extraction in the 18th century. One lake, the Broekvelden/Vettenbroek, was only created in the 20th century by sand extraction. Today, many of the lakes are used for water recreation.

The Oukoopse Molen is a historic hollow post watermill dating from around 1688, located near Reeuwijk in South Holland. It was built to keep the Oukoop and Negenviertel polders dry and currently functions as a voluntary auxiliary pumping station. After several restorations, it is operational again and can be visited by appointment. The mill is a national monument and is situated in a characteristic peat meadow area.

Accessible by a hiking route on the dyke next to the Wiericke. Watch out for the sheep guarding it! 😌

Nice tower that overlooks part of the Reeuwijkse Plassen and part of the Reeuwijkse Hout. Tower is not very high so for most people reasonably climbable. Worth the effort to go up!
