The Montgomery Canal runs for 53km from the Llangollen Canal to Newtown. It's been partially restored in recent years but currently only 11km is navigable by boat. The canal path is great for walking though and provides a useful link to other areas as well as a pleasant flat route itself.

Powis Castle is a medieval fortress built in the 13th century by the Welsh ruler of Powys Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn. The castle has been lived in, ransacked and modernised over the years since it's construction. It's now managed by the National Trust. The castle is open from 10:00 - 16:00 everyday, members get in free but non-NT members will have to pay. There is a café on site that's open from 10:00 and a small NT shop.
