The hike up to West View is a great addon to the Palmer Pond loop. From here you can look out across the Hudson River toward Johnson, McCarthy, Mill, and Stockton Mountains (listed north to south).

Palmer pond is an easy, pretty hike. The western side of the pond floods sometimes, so you may need to take the trail around the eastern side (left at the fork from the trailhead) both ways in wet weather.

The land of Hackensack Mountain Park was donated in 1980 and became a public park and trail system in 2011. The Yellow Trail leads by a pond near the high school, while the orange trail climbs up to the summit of the mountain. Street parking is also available near a second trailhead on the west side of Warrenburg.

From the summit of Hackensack Mountain you look out across Warrensburg and see where the Schroon River (south and east of the summit) empties into the Hudson (west of the summit). The name Hackensack derives from an Algonquin word meaning "where two rivers come together".
