Nofels Natural Cemetery Tree burials have been available in Nofels since 2014. Many people from Vorarlberg have already taken advantage of this offer, so the small area at the rear of the cemetery is already fully occupied and no more urns can be buried there. In the new area behind the cemetery wall, we now offer mourners a new place for remembrance and individual commemoration near the forest. Various rooms and spaces, all barrier-free, invite you to dignified celebrations for the deceased. Nature itself acts as the gardener here, continually decorating the graves with new touches throughout the seasons. To avoid disturbing nature, no memorial symbols such as candles, angels, or flowers are permitted in this area of the cemetery. The Nofels Natural Cemetery is open to everyone in Vorarlberg, regardless of religious affiliation or culture. The natural cemetery is easily accessible by public transport; the bus stop is located right next to the parish church. New Parish Church of the Visitation of Mary from 1960 in Nofels - Feldkirch Next to the old church in Nofels, a new parish church was built in 1960 according to plans by master builder Adolf Wouk. The simple, spacious building is structured externally by individual pillars. Concrete beams on the walls and ceiling provide structure. The modern, abstractly designed stained glass windows are the work of the renowned Tyrolean Glass Painting Studio, whose glass art has adorned many Vorarlberg churches. The rest of the furnishings are also deliberately understated: simple forms and unfussy surfaces predominate in the crucifix, tabernacle, and altar. The reliefs of the Stations of the Cross are by the Fraxner artist Jakob Summer. The Construction History of Tostner Castle There is a very interesting assumption about Tostner Castle that it was a large, unfinished castle complex, of which only the ring wall, dating from the end of the 12th century/beginning of the 13th century, was built. The present keep, gatehouse, and palace (possibly also outbuildings) were built into these in the second half of the 13th century. This theory is supported primarily by the truly remarkable placement of the palace, which was placed right above the ring wall and occupies a remarkable position within the castle complex. During the Appenzell Wars, which raged heavily in this region, Tostner Castle was also severely damaged in 1405, but was rebuilt after 1408. The very spacious, yet sparsely built castle complex, was abandoned before 1616 and has since fallen into disrepair. The keep was restored in 1938/39, and extensive renovations followed in 1974 and 1980.
