The Cistercian convent of Zehdenick was founded around 1250 by Margraves John I and Otto III of Brandenburg and their sister Mechthild. According to legend, the impetus was a Eucharistic miracle from 1249: An innkeeper had buried a consecrated host to boost her beer sales. When she repented and the host was recovered, bloody soil was found – an event interpreted as divine. This "blood miracle" made Zehdenick a place of pilgrimage and motivated the founding of the convent southeast of the town on the Havel River.

The court linden is a historic, usually very old linden tree (Tilia spp.) that served as a site for village courts, council meetings (Thing or Dingtag), and public court proceedings in the open air from the Middle Ages until the early modern period. It typically stood in a prominent location, often in the village center or near castles, churches, or hills.

Friedrich-Ebert-Platz is a town square north of the B109 (Clara-Zetkin-Straße), named after the German social democrat and politician Friedrich Ebert. Around or on the square are the Zehdenick district court, a Soviet military cemetery, the courthouse and the Moltke linden trees. Right next door are the grounds of the Cistercian monastery and the monastery barn. Near the entrance to the square is the Friedrich-Ebert oak and a memorial stone with the image of Friedrich Ebert. The oak stands almost where the Ebert fountain (Friedrich-Ebert fountain) once stood in Zehdenick.
