Part of the trail is quite challenging. I wouldn't rate it "easy"; it gets steep, slippery, and requires some climbing. Not recommended without hiking boots, and not suitable for small children or dogs. But it was a lot of fun :)

The thermal bath is currently closed (until 2025). However, the natural pool just below is so much more exciting.

A crazy swimming spot on Sao Miguel that's a must-visit. You can drive to one of the two parking lots above (the path is very steep!) or directly next to the old spa (the drive is very steep). The swimming spot offers an exciting mix of cool Atlantic water, which is pushed into the narrow bay by every wave, and the hot water of the thermal spring that pours into this bay. Caution: When the tide is in, the force of the waves pushing in should not be underestimated. Special care should be taken with children who are not (yet) able to assess these dangers. Important: Wear shoes until entering the natural pool. The lava rocks are sharp and will hurt without shoes.

The middle third of the trail is quite challenging and only recommended in dry weather. It's definitely not a leisurely stroll; it's a bit adventurous with ropes and slippery, steep steps, but doable.

Right! Bad, very strenuous path

A truly insane approach via a narrow, winding road that leads you down to the sea's edge. Plenty of parking is available at the bottom. A short path past the de Ferraria spa leads to a small cove fed by Volcanic springs. Swimming here is pleasantly warm (between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius). But be careful: only suitable at low tide, as the waves are incredibly powerful. But it's definitely worth seeing 🥰👍🏻

1/3 of the trail is a survival trail and sometimes the trail is no longer clear. Good footwear is required
