Castlemartyr Castle was built on the site of earlier fortifications in 1420. Today the castle is a ruin and part of a luxury 5* resort.

Pigeon's Wood lies to the north of the lake in the Castlemartyr Estate, effectively on an island from the River Keltie that feeds the lake.
