Matthew
May 27, 2024, Radio Towers at Earl Reservoir Park

These radio towers overlook Earl Reservoir Park and are in the middle of the Highlands Trail. If you come up the singletrack trail from Earl Reservoir Park, be ready for a steep uphill and downhill!

Schunnemunk Mountain reaches up to an elevation of 1,664 feet, but the best views come just after the summit. Turn down the spur trail named "Monoliths Trail" and walk to the end (it's just a couple hundred feet long). This summit has a huge clearing that offers pretty expansive views.

This charming covered bridge is named after James Mealley (note the original spelling, different from the bridge) who had a farm and business in Black Rock Forest in the 1800s. Here is a photo of him: https://b2436439.smushcdn.com/2436439/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/page2image26970352.jpg

The ascent/descent from the Reservoir Trail is SUPER STEEP. This approach is only recommended for those in good shape... and bring hiking poles!
