Tips from the Community

Phil
September 18, 2025, Backside of the Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee

Unmissable, yes this sign is legendary! We did the excursion from the Griffith Observatory and the trail is not particularly well indicated. The walk is nice (a little sporty) but at times the path is very narrow, lost in the vegetation and I admit that with the risk of fires you have to be vigilant. Don't forget to bring enough water. Excursion made at the beginning of September 2024, it was a heatwave.

Water fountain available on Mulholland Drive Bring 2 liters with refills at the fountain. Very little shade, so a cap is essential. My sneakers were sufficient (roads and trails only). Absolutely avoid street sneakers or flip-flops...

Awesome spot for a 360 view! Just note, there's no shade up there. Take your breaks in shade on the road up and then stay for the views and wind.

Griffith Park Drive is a great climb up into the hills behind Glendale. The road is smooth paved and well-graded, so you should be able to swiftly get to the top.

Located in the northwest corner of Griffith Park is the Travel Town Museum and railway park covering the history of railroad transportation in the western United States. The railroad museum sections contains 43 full-scale railroad engines, cars and other rolling stock. There is also a quaint miniature train available that travels over one mile of track. It traverses a cute bridge, goes through a forest and an old Western Town.

If you want a photo or selfie of the famous Hollywood sign then this is the place for you. A busy place though, especially on weekends and vacation periods.

Despite the fence, it is possible to cross the trail over Mt. Lee to Cahuenga Peak here. Great view of the city. Good shoes are mandatory

Anyone who played Need for Speed in the 2000s will surely remember the street where you get that great view of the Hollywood Sign. You always drove down this road in a drift ;)
