August 4, 2026, Marquette Park and Father Marquette Statue

For decades, the area below the fort was used as a garden for vegetable cultivation. Shortly after the fort was closed in 1895, the Park Commission transformed this area into a park in honor of Father Jacque Marquette. By 1907, the landscaping was completed, and two years later, the statue by Gaetano Trentanove was erected in the center of the park. It is located on Main Street in front of Fort Mackinac. The park is available year-round.

In 2015, it marked the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The statue commemorates 200 years of peace between the United States and Canada. The hotel is located in Marquette Park next to the Richard & Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum. It is a popular wedding venue. The Peace Garden is open year-round.

The Mission Church is located on Main Street at the east end of Mackinac Island's historic downtown and is Michigan's oldest surviving house of worship. It is also the earliest surviving example of a New England-style church in the Midwest. It was built simply and elegantly by the island's first Protestant congregation in 1830. Open daily to the public from early May to early October. It is a popular wedding destination.

This reconstruction is located on Fort Street in Marquette Park and commemorates the presence of Fr. Claude Dablon and Jacques Marquette on the island in 1670-71. Dablon had arrived in the winter and was joined in the spring by Marquette, who was traveling with a wandering band of Huron who had been seeking a home since being driven from southern Ontario by Iroquoian warriors in the 1650s.

Time seems to stand still on Mackinac Island, not only because there are no cars, but also because there are two historic military forts and a handful of the oldest buildings in Michigan. Just being here will make you feel like you're in the past! Mackinac Island is home to many beautiful examples of Victorian architecture among the cottages and B&Bs, many of which are well over 100 years old. The island's museums and reenactments by costumed interpreters also offer glimpses into the lives of 19th-century soldiers and civilians.

The most famous of the island's rock formations, this arch juts out over the water and is more than fifty feet wide. It attracts the vast majority of tourists to the island and is accessible on foot, by taxi, by carriage, or by bicycle. It can also be viewed from below on the island's circumnavigation tour.
