A great destination for a backpackers who don't want to hike in too far. Look for spots all around the lake; there are flowing creeks on the south end. Good fishing.

Blue Basin Overlook is an official overlook maintained by the National Park Service that offers awesome views down into the John Day River valley. The Blue Basin Overlook Trail looks around a lot of the landscape that you look down onto from this overlook.

Bullrun Rock, located in the Monument Rock Wilderness Area, stands at a whopping 7873 feet tall! There is pretty minimal shade along the route, but you can find a few trees to escape the sun. Although there typically won't be a lot of trail traffic, if any, the best times of year to visit are June through October.

Standing at 7,857 feet tall, Bullrun is one of the highest peaks in the Monument Rock Wilderness area. To reach the summit requires a bit of a scramble up some rocks, but the views of the surrounding areas are well worth the effort.

Nestled in the Strawberry Mountains at 7,465 feet above sea level, High Lake is a beautiful high alpine lake surround by peaks and forests. Slide Lake is just a short hike up the Skyline Trail, so it is easy to connect the two for a great day out.
