This January 30, 1972, is sadly known as one of the deadliest days in the conflict between Northern Ireland and England. In Derry's Catholic Bogside, people have taken to the streets against the government's internment policy, i.e. against the detention without trial by the British army of people suspected of being close to the IRA. Although such protests are banned, the demonstrators are unarmed and everything is peaceful. The soldiers then opened fire on the crowd: 14 people died, including several teenagers, and 13 others were injured, some seriously. The reason given later was that the shots were aimed at armed members of terrorist groups. https://www.wigi.wiki/wiki/de/Bloody_Sunday_(1972)
