One of many of its kind here in the region. Always beautiful to look at, partly to climb.

The patronage of "Maria Schnee" – which, in my experience, is not encountered too often – indicates that this church was indeed consecrated to Mary, but not, as is usually the case, associated with one of her classic feast days (for example, the Naming of Mary, her Nativity, Assumption, or as Queen of the Rosary). Rather, the search for the origin of "Maria Schnee" in church history leads us far back to the fourth/fifth century, and geographically away from here to the Italian capital. On August 5, 363, at the spot where the magnificent church "Santa Maria Maggiore" stands today (Pope Francis was buried here a few months ago), the so-called "Snow Miracle" occurred. That is, on that day, in the middle of summer, there was snow in the morning because the Mother of God wanted a church dedicated to her to be built on that spot. She communicated this wish in a nocturnal vision to a wealthy couple – who financed the construction – and to the Bishop of Rome, Pope Liberius. The Roman church has the rank of a patriarchal basilica (papal basilica); it is the origin of all churches and chapels with this patronage. In the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church, August 5th, as the consecration day of the church (Anno Domini 432 by Pope Sixtus III.), is a "non-obligatory memorial day".

Generally, dogs are welcome on most hiking trails in Polické stěny, but it's always best to keep them on a leash, especially in protected areas or near wildlife.
