The stone lookout tower, built in 1933, is 3 stories high and was named after the then president of the Nature Walkers Federation. The building is interesting from several perspectives: Firstly, the stamping point of the National Blue Tour is also located here. The Nagy Villám Hill itself, at 378m, is not very high, but its panoramic view is stunning and unique: you can see the Danube Bend perfectly, and even the part before the bend beyond the hill, which is unparalleled and unusual. Of course, the Visegrád Castle obstructs a certain part, but this does not detract from the view. So, it can be said that the Lookout Tower stands in a splendid location. Its top level is open, while the middle and lower levels are closed. There is also a buffet at the entrance, and we need to buy a ticket for a few hundred Ft. This means that the lookout tower has opening hours. In its vicinity, you can find shady benches for rest and a public fountain 100m away. It is a true tourist resting place where we can find both food and water. It is definitely worth climbing for the view!

The Kő-hegyi Menedékház (Czibulka-János-Hütte) stands on the 366-meter-high Kő-hegy near Szentendre and Pomáz in Hungary. The mountain hut was opened in 1933 and is one of the country's last classic hiking huts. It offers food and accommodation. From the hut area, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Danube valley and the surrounding mountains.

It was a castle of the Queen, which was destroyed by the Turks. It was reconstructed in 2005-2006, including the wooden observation tower and the Castle Well, which are worth highlighting (Photos attached). The view of the surroundings is impressive, especially towards the Kevélyek. It is definitely worth a visit, and you can visit the castle for an entrance ticket. The castle is easily accessible, and the surroundings are also nicely developed.

A spring with abundant, drinkable water, with a small lake in front of it.

What a beautiful view of the Danube Bend ☺️. But the castle has much more to offer that you can see.

A popular and well-known excursion spot, a few kilometers from Szentendre is Lajos Spring. It can be reached by an asphalt road that goes up to the Spring. From here, hiking and forestry trails follow. The spring water is drinkable, the spring lake is enclosed by walls and is in fairly good condition. There is no information about the tourist house directly near the spring. In any case, the whole thing could do with some modernization, because everything looks the same as when I was here in 1988...

A very beautiful castle, with a steep climb and a steep descent. But with a bit of time and determination, it's doable. Great views over the Danube.

Beyond the waterfalls themselves, you'll encounter diverse landscapes. Many trails feature dense woodlands, river valleys, and unique rock formations like the sandstone rocks near Nagykovácsi. The region is also known for its scenic viewpoints, such as the Csergezán Lookout Tower or the Dobogókő Viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the Danube Bend and surrounding mountains.
Yes, many of the waterfall trails in Central Hungary are designed as circular routes, allowing you to start and end at the same point. Examples include the Waterfall Near Nagykovácsi – Sandstone Rocks loop from Solymár and the Vasas-Szakadék Gorge – Kőhegy Mountain Hut loop from Dömörkapu, both offering convenient round trips.
The best time for waterfall hiking is typically in spring after snowmelt or heavy rains, when the waterfalls are at their most powerful. Autumn also offers beautiful scenery with changing foliage. While winter hiking is possible, some trails might be icy or less accessible, and the waterfalls may be frozen.
For experienced hikers seeking a challenge, routes like the Visegrád Castle – Spartacus Trail Viewpoint loop from Pilisszentlászló offer a more demanding experience. This difficult 24.9 km trail through the Visegrád Mountains can take over 7 hours to complete, providing significant elevation changes and expansive views.

Absolutely. The region is home to several notable water features. The Anna Valley Waterfall is a key attraction on the Lajos Spring – Anna Valley Waterfall loop from Dömörkapu. You can also find the Lajos Spring itself, a natural monument often incorporated into hiking routes.
Yes, many hiking areas in Central Hungary have amenities nearby. Villages like Dömös, Visegrád, and Szentendre, often serve as starting points for trails and offer cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Some routes also pass by mountain huts, such as the Kőhegy Mountain Hut on the Vasas-Szakadék Gorge loop, or the Apátkút Hunting Lodge and Trout Lakes, where you can find refreshments.
Given the varied terrain and potential for wet conditions, it's advisable to wear waterproof hiking boots with good grip. Layered clothing is recommended to adapt to changing weather, and a waterproof jacket is essential, especially in spring or autumn. Consider bringing trekking poles for stability on uneven or slippery paths.
While many trails are well-known, exploring less-trafficked paths in areas like the Börzsöny Mountains can lead to quieter discoveries. The Duna-Ipoly National Park, encompassing parts of the Visegrád and Börzsöny mountains, is vast and offers numerous opportunities to find serene spots and smaller, less-frequented waterfalls away from the main crowds.
