The ideal resting spot: the benches outside the farmhouse and a stream flowing alongside. It's located in the middle of a quiet plain where the only sounds are the marmots and eagles.

Tolkien and his tour group stayed here. The guest book with the entries from 1911 is still there.

Although the beginning of this route is beautiful, the loop is impossible to accomplish. It requires crossing 4 streams. The first 2 are ok, the last 2 are impossible and extremely slippery and dangerous. After going up and down to try and find a better spot to cross (which we did not manage), we had to come down the mountain. The climb down was extremely dangerous. We fell a few times and nearly had to phone a rescue team. After 7 hours (the walk should have taken 3.45) we got back grateful to be alive. Komoot has let us down a few times. Never again will we trust this app again.

On the border with Switzerland, nestled in the small village of Riale, the Aalts Dorf Hotel and Restaurant is the ideal structure to enjoy a fabulous stay in one of the most evocative valleys of the Ossola, Val Formazza. The structure recalls the mountain characteristics of the ancient Alpine houses, remembering Walser stories, traditions and customs and offering, at the same time, all the comforts you need. Very kind staff, really welcoming place and delicious food, Recommended!
