Trekking that starts from the equipped area of Ripa Alta, with parking, water fountain, kiosk-bar, and picnic tables. The path in the first part is very steep and without shelter from the sun. You then enter the woods: the path follows the course of the river which, in the summer period, is completely dry (August 2025). In several places you can leave the path and enter the riverbed, thus skirting the rocky walls of the two twin mountains. The path is marked as risky: in reality, in the summer period, it is easily manageable even for children aged ten and up; during the period when the river is present, it may be riskier to venture onto it.

The Grotta di Sant'Angelo, in the heart of the Montagna dei Fiori, is one of the most interesting rock cavities of the Italian prehistory of the Monti della Laga. The hermitage cave opens at the beginning of the path that leads to the Salinello gorges.

We were there in July. The route is sunny, I recommend less hot times of the day. There is a drinking fountain in the picnic area before the trailhead but it was out of water. Still a wonderful place

The best time to visit Montagna Dei Fiori for waterfall hikes is typically during spring (April-June) when snowmelt contributes to fuller waterfalls and the surrounding vegetation is lush. Given the difficult rating and rugged terrain, it's essential to wear sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support and grip. Layered clothing is recommended to adapt to changing weather conditions, and waterproof outerwear is advisable, especially during spring or after rainfall, due to spray from waterfalls and potential for wet paths. Don't forget a backpack with water, snacks, and a first-aid kit.
While the Salinello River creates numerous cascades and waterfalls, the rugged and often fast-flowing nature of the water within the gorge means that designated or safe wild swimming spots are not commonly highlighted. The focus is primarily on hiking and appreciating the natural beauty. Always exercise extreme caution and be aware of strong currents and slippery rocks if considering any water activities.
