The town hall on the west side of the market square was completed in 1841, after the previous Renaissance building from the 16th century burned down. The building's line was set back 20 meters to the west to enlarge the market square. Two Renaissance portals are still preserved inside the new building. The facades are characterized by Gothic forms with pointed arch windows, pilasters, and cornices. The central tower crowns the market square façade and was given a carillon made of Meissen porcelain in 1987. The town hall entrance is particularly emphasized by a balcony porch. The building houses the mayor's offices, conference rooms, the city archives, and the wedding room of the registry office. https://www.weimar-lese.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/gebaeude/rathaus/

Initially, Herderplatz, north of today's market square, was the center of Weimar, but as the city expanded from around 1300, today's market became the center of society and trade. The town hall has now been freshly renovated and looks really great.

Very beautiful complex that is located directly on the motorway but is shielded by the forest and the large garden. The orangery is beautifully designed and has wonderfully fragrant flowers, while the complex itself is perfect for a stroll. Belvedere Palace above the city of Weimar was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, along with other buildings of "Classical Weimar". The path below the palace leads you directly to the city park and then to the beautiful old town.

Beautiful town hall with balcony and carillon on the large market square. Renovation recently completed - it still shines in the new bright color. Tip: if the weather is nice, go to the market square in the evening and enjoy the sunset over the town hall with a nice beer in one of the restaurants on the market square.

Taubach (near Weimar) is the oldest documented mill location in Thuringia. The first mill stood here on the Ilm as early as 1120, and the current building was changed several times after 1723. Grist was still ground in this mill until 1990. The water wheel was renovated in 1991 and has been used to generate electricity ever since. A wonderful new rest area for cyclists is currently being built here.
